On June 1, 2013, The Austin Chapter of NARI, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, volunteered to frame a home for Austin Habitat for Humanity. As a member of NARI, Eastside Lumber is proud to have been involved in this project. Thanks to all the Austin NARI volunteers!
Austin Habitat for Humanity builds approximately 24 homes a year, or 6 per quarter. In addition to relying on coporate sponsors, experienced and unexperienced volunteers build each house.
The homes Habitat builds are not free. Each homeowner puts a small amount of cash as a down payment and agrees to work 300 sweat equity hours building homes and volunteering prior to starting construction on your home. Additionally, each homeowner then buys the completed home from Austin Habitat for Humanity with a zero-percent interest fixed rate mortgage for 30 years.
